This week I tried one of these Jocalat bars for the first time. I'm a huge Larabar fan and an even huge-r chocolate fan so I thought I couldn't go wrong, but I'm sorry...this was way wrong. Was it the mint? Did I chose a sucky flavor? I totally chose the sucky flavor, didn't I? I know a lot of you love these things. Tell me what went wrong!!!
And speaking of all things mintchocolatey, I went all Alicia Silverstone today and bought one of these Rice Dream Mint Pies from Whole Foods. If you read The Kind Diet you know our girl is all over these like white on rice (well... brown on rice in this case). This is a totally vegan novelty dessert that has Mint Dream rice-based ice cream in between two oatmeal cookies and dipped in chocolate. Hello?! Yum, right?! But again, I was somehow inexplicably not lovin' it. Maybe it was because I had to eat it while wrapped in blankets due to the fact that it's 24* outside, or because I couldn't come to terms with the fact that I was eating a quarter of my daily calories in this little ice cream sandwich. But I know that it was good, and I'm sure I'll be hopping on the Mint Pie bandwagon as soon as it gets hot outside. I can just imagine enjoying this creamy cold treat while soaking by my (inflatable kiddie) pool this summer. Mmmm. Bliss.
And now for something seasonally appropriate and unbelievably delicious. I have only had split pea soup a few times in my life and nearly forgot that it existed until I saw a can of Amy's Split Pea Soup at the grocery store. I took it home and finished the can in under an hour, paired with a salad and a better mood. This soup is healthful, flavorful, totally vegan, and will completely warm you up on these ungodly February evenings. AWESOME.Other things I tried this weekend with varying degrees of success:
- Kundalini Yoga.
- Hanging out with boys from high school who I haven't seen since graduation.
- Cleaning my room.
- Not drinking.
- Old Fashioned Lentil Loaf (pics to come).
- Being nice to my dad.

Actually tried silk soy almond milk which was pretty good. And made some homemade black bean hummus. That was really good!

Guess I've never tried the chocolate mint Jocalat bar. I've had other flavors and loved 'em...especially the german chocolate cake flavor! And I've been wanting to try those mint pies since reading about them in the Kind Diet too! I'll wait until the snow melts here though...:-)
Hi Andria!
I just barely finished my own blog post reviewing a LaraBar, too! You should read my little notation and see what you think!
And yes, I too enjoy Amy's Split Pea Soup! It is very good isn't it! Yummy!
And I would NOT want to hang out with any guys from high school, no sir! You are brave for doing that. I'd be too uncomfortable!
Love this post! Thanks Andria!
I am a big fan of chocolate and mint together, but not a fan of the Jocalat bars at all! I stick to the "cookie" ones! :)
I've never tried a Jocalat bar, but since I'm ambivalent about the chocolate-mint combo and you didn't like the chocolate mint bar, I'll stick to another flavor once I actually get around to trying one. As for trying new things, I had my first taste of chocolate soy milk last week and it was tasty tasty :)
I *love* Larabars! I didn't like them when I first tried them (I have no idea why; I think I used to not like dates), and then somehow my tastebuds changed & now I love Larabars (and dates)! I think chocolate & mint are a match made in heaven, but I can imagine they wouldn't be very good combined with the inherently "earthy" flavor of the Lara ingredients... Try again! The Cinnamon Roll flavor is divine.
I laughed out loud at the last item on your list. Hahahaha.
I cannot think of anything new that I've done lately, which is kinda sad... I bought some new clothes over the weekend & I bought new running shoes last week. Does that count? ;-)
You are not alone on the jocalat bars - I love laras i really do. I eat them all the time... but the jocalats? Eh... they are just icky and too strong and im just.. yea not a fan. :)
Oh and adding new things ive tried lately Ive made my own frosting for cupcakes from scratch woo!
Funny you went to NYU- do you still live in NYC! I'm a huge Jocalat fan but not many people are. My favorite is definitely the plain chocolate or the chocolate coffee. I still have to read the Kind Diet...I've been looking for a copy and can't find one!
My friend is doing really well, thanks for asking :)
I was disappointed by the Jocalat bars too! I'm glad it's not just me
Andria, hi sweetie! SOrry Ive been tardy to your party :)
The Jocolat...never had them. And I always think store bought bars no matter what are simply overrated for like 2 bucks or 4 bucks a pop for some of them from WF!
Alicia's eats. The rice dreams. Again, thanks for your honesty. And I can see how those actually wouldnt be that good. I dont love storebought cold treats, at all :)
kundalini is the only kind of yoga that really stretches me to accept it. it's not my natural thing. I have to say ok, this is ok, continue doing this. dont laugh. type of thing. LOL
I am totally addicted to the Rice Dream Mint Pie!!! In fact there is an emtpy wrapper sitting right on the table next to me. HAHA :-)
XOXO
