Dust yourself off and try again. (Oh and an earthquake.)

Yesterday evening there was all this crazy speculation about snow days and being snowed in and how much general crazy ass snow we were supposed to have in Chicago. So last night around 4am, while snuggled up in my bed, I was awoken by, um...shall we say a shaking? My windows rattled and I felt my bed shake a little, but I'm fairly susceptible to very realistic dreams so I thought I was just imagining it. I opened my eyes and swore I heard a car driving down the street, so I thought to myself, "Wow, that was a crazy snow plow. It almost felt like an earthquake. Snore Zzzzz." Cut to this morning when I turned on the TV while making tea and the first thing I heard was, "How did you start your morning? A foot of snow? An earthquake?" I did a double take. Guys, we had a 4.3 earthquake! Holy crap.

Anyway, thanks for the great responses to Sunday's post! You guys are awesome. Feel free to join in with more new stuff that you have tried recently! Maybe your first earthquake, perhaps? Also, sorry I didn't post about the Superbowl at all...I love football and was rooting for the Saints, but I just simply wasn't in the mood to go to the party I was invited to. There were some great movies on TV though! I watched parts of "The Sixth Sense" and "Titanic" and flipped to check the scores during commercials. Afterward I rented "Inglorious Basterds" which was fantastic. My hopes are a little higher for the Oscars.

I was thinking back to a post I wrote for an old blog last year, and keeping with the "don't knock it 'til you try it" theme I thought I would re-post it here. Enjoy!

Yesterday morning (and by morning I mean 2pm), my roommate and I were at home working (and by working I mean watching Hocus Pocus) when I went to get a glass of water. I spotted a nearly empty bottle of Cointreau in the freezer and since neither of us had anything to do that day, half-jokingly asked her if maybe she wanted to start drinking. “Well…do you have anything to mix it with?” I looked and replied, “Just soy milk and water.” Naturally, she politely but firmly declined.

At this point I thought it would be HILARIOUS to mix the Cointreau with the soy milk and DARE her to drink it. She refused. I dared her again, this time putting our friendship at stake. We went back and forth for awhile negotiating the terms until she settled on, “If you drink it, I will.” So I did. And she did.

And it was amazing.

It tasted like a creamsicle that got you drunk. What we had expected to make us gag or throw up or cry was actually an unexpectedly fabulous creation. Now, I’m not saying I would, like, order it at a bar, but if they’re out of white wine and vodka then who knows what could happen…

The point is, don’t knock it ’til you try it. Who knows what you could possibly discover in this limitless world.

Yes, she's wearing a Botox t-shirt. Sorry...

Holy crap about that earthquake! I would have freaked out. Cointreau + soymilk? I feel like that's something I'd already have to be drunk to try. Though I can't talk, since I've been known to mix beer + vodka + lemonade powder. Ugh.

NYU did cancel classes today, by the way...too bad I was already almost to class when they sent out the email :( Stay warm!

Love the blog! Just had to comment today, since I too was rattled awake this morning, out in Naperville. I thought surely something had exploded outside of my apartment. Since I already had my alarm set for 4:05, it was a very startling start to the day!

This is CRAZY--you experienced an earthquake, for real?! Our lives keep linking up in unexpected ways. :) First, LaraBars, now this...

Last night, I actually attended an earthquake preparedness lecture. My church arranged it. The speaker was an emergency expert from the State of Utah. It was really good! I took notes and learned a lot. There were exhibits of things you should have in your car emergency kit, and things you should keep in your personal emergency kit, what to do in an event, what NOT to do, etc.! Wonderful! And then I came home and promptly went on with my life, not even trying to accomplish some of the easy immediate measures that I just learned about.

And now, you saying that you felt a REAL earthquake just a few hours from the time I was in my class?! Wow... I really need to take what I learned seriously! I mean I live on a huge fault line, here in the Salt Lake Valley. One of these days, it's going to shift and there are going to be major problems! I need to get prepared!

What with Haiti, and now Chicago, I've had some pretty big earthquake wake-up calls! But I am glad to hear that you are okay. Thanks for sharing your experience, Andria. Love ya! Stay safe! (And warm!)

That is so crazy about the earthquake! I heard that on the news yesterday & couldn't believe it. Glad you're okay!

That orange creamsicle drink actually sounds quite delicious. I'd try it! (But this is coming from a girl whose drink of choice in college was boxed wine... Franzia Blush = <3) Haha.

That Botox shirt! Hahaha.
