Sweet'n'Sexy Spirapple Bake

When I was little I was paranoid about eating crunchy apples. My mom would have to slice them for me because I refused to bite into them. I think this was because I hated losing my baby teeth and whenever I would have a loose one people would tell me to bite into an apple. I always nursed the tooth until it fell out by itself (or my mom would trick me and pull it out), so the thought of hard apples drove me crazy. Now the paranoia has passed of course, but how fun would it have been to have spiralized apples as a tooth-losing child?

My favorite kinds of recipes are the one where you throw in a handful of this, handful of that, taste, add some more of this, etc. Everything is to taste and no matter what you do, you can't go wrong. I love to bake but I always get nervous about the blow-ups and melt-downs that can happen in the kitchen when you add a little too much baking soda or something (umm maybe I should rename this post "Andria's Unnatural Paranoias"), so this recipe is perfect for someone who, like me, likes to experiment as long as it's gonna turn out delicious.

Here is the Sweet'n'Sexy Spirapple Bake -- a healthy, breakfast-y version of apple pie. You can make it to taste, add whatever you want, and it's guaranteed to turn out delicious. Here is the general recipe I used:

Sweet'n'Sexy Spirapple Bake
  • 2 Fuji apples
  • Cinnamon
  • Raisins
  • 1 T (generous) coconut butter or other non-dairy butter
  • Nuts, handful (I used pecans)
  • Rolled Oats, two small handfuls
- Spiralize your apples
- In a pie tin, mix together your apples, cinnamon, raisins, non-dairy butter, nuts, and one small handful of rolled oats.
- Throw your second handful of rolled oats on top.
- Bake at 350* for 12 minutes.

While it's enough for more than one person, I totally won't judge you if you eat the whole thing over the course of the morning.

But this would also be a great healthful dessert for after dinner as well! Make it whenever, however...just don't forget to use your brand new spiralizer!!! What ingredients would you like to add to the Spirapple Bake? Did you have any weird and crazy childhood paranoias?

That's such a creative way to use spiralized apples! I'd probably eat half the pan for breakfast...no shame.

When I was a kid, I was terrified of purple grapes because I had a scary dream involving them swarming me. Funny, I still don't eat grapes

Looks delicious! Flaked coconut would probably be a tasty topping addition, although the bake sounds great as-is.

Beside sharing a refusal to bite into unsliced apples, as a kid, I'd avoid those huge gutters in the sidewalks, because I was afraid of falling in and getting dragged out to sea.

I've read others comments about how cool it is that you spiralized apples! And I have to concur with them! It IS a fun idea! But I'm must excited to spiralize zucchini! Zucchini noodles! :D

Eeeek! That looks DELICIOUS! Kind of like a vegan apple crisp. I would probably mix the oats with a bit of maple syrup and maybe flax to give them some crunch... then toast them in the oven for a while. I like crunchy toppings!

I was also paranoid about losing teeth... or pulling them, I suppose. I'd forgotten about that terrible aspect of being a kid.

Holy jeez that looks good! I think I'd add a touch of cardamom. I've been obsessed with its flavor recently.

I'd add a big heaping spoonful of almond butter before serving. I eat it with everything ;) and I'd probably add some toasted almonds as the nuts as well. Thanks for another chance to enter! Hooray! ceevegnashville [at] gmail [dot] com

I want a spiralizer!! I'm definitely going to check out your giveaway post in a sec. I also have an issue with biting into whole apples, but mine is related to my lip piercing. When I bite into an apple, if juice runs down, it gets on my lip ring and gets all sticky and gross. So I slice 'em up everytime.

What a great idea! I would put a touch of lemon zest in the bake since Spring is on it's way. Yum!

I second the commenter that said they would add nut butter to this. Hmm..or some ice cream..or yogurt. this is a great recipe

hmm i'd add some nutmeg, agave nectar, and maybe blueberries!

as for childhood paranoias...that would be when my dad would throw dead fish out in the toilet, after they died in his big fishtank. i was always scared they'd jump up and bite my bum while on the toilet!

I don't blame you for your baking paranoia at ALL! I have the same fear, in fact. I'm least confident in the kitchen when baked goods are involved. When I'm w/o a recipe, that is. I have the same spiralizer (love!) but haven't tried it on apples yet. I love this idea! Chopping apples is a drag too--I'd much rather spiralize. And yeah I would totally eat that pie in one sitting. :)

OMG I need a spiralizer to make that, I am salivating over my screen!

This looks perfect as it is! And as unhealthy as this suggestion may be.. I think a little brown sugar would be welcome!

Wow, that looks so delish!!

Childhood paranoias... I was so ticklish under my arms that I wasn't able to catch my breath when tickled, so I was afraid that I'd somehow get "death by tickle." See? Your apple thing's nothin' by comparison!

I want to win a spiralizer! Hmm, I'd add some grated carrots and walnuts for a carrot cake type feel....or spiralized carrots??
If not you could also add berries for a berry apple bake instead, yum!

i would add some kuzu to thicken up the juices a little, and i would totally add some lemon juice and perhaps some peaches...yum...

as a child i was always afraid that there was a monster under my bed...this fear followed me throughout my life...sometimes i still check under my bed and in my closet...i also use to have these weird dreams of an indian chief just standing in my closet...and yes, that was another paranoia...so afraid of my closet and afraid of what was under my bed!

I was promptly sad that I have no way to spiralize apples to make this. Yum!

I would add some goji berries and mulberries, and maybe some walnuts..yum!

Walnuts! Looks like it needs walnuts and golden raisins, I don't know why they taste better when they're pretty but golden raisins are my new thing!

RunDiRun said...

Sounds great as is! But I usually add a pinch of nutmeg to those types of baked goodies, so I would probably add some to this as well.

That looks so good! I'd add some vegan ice cream on top :)

Oh my gosh, that apple bake looks delish! What a great idea!

I used to only eat bananas in "mashed" form as a child. My mom called it "banana pudding" for me. :)

I was afraid of sharks, but I don't think that's weird.

Crazy childhood paranoias? Nah...my sister had them.. She did not like her food to touch on her plate. LOL

This looks amazing.. I would try adding maple syrup to mine.

I don't really like apples, but this looks divine. I wonder how it would be if you then dumped it in a pie crust & baked it for a bit?
